๐ŸŒฟ 10 Things I Stopped Using to Create a Slower Home

There was a time when my home felt full… but not peaceful.

Every surface had something on it. Every drawer had more than it needed. And even though everything looked “fine,” it didn’t feel calm.

I realized something simple over time:

A slower home isn’t created by adding more…
it’s created by gently letting some things go.

These are a few of the things I’ve quietly stopped using—and what I’ve chosen instead.

1. I stopped using harsh overhead lighting

And started using soft lamps and candlelight instead.

The difference is immediate.
The whole room feels quieter… softer… more like a place you want to stay awhile.

2. I stopped reaching for paper towels

And started using linen cloths.

They’re softer, reusable, and somehow make even the smallest kitchen task feel more intentional.

3. I stopped hiding everything in plastic containers

And started using glass jars and old crocks.

Flour, sugar, wooden spoons…
they’ve become part of the beauty of the room instead of something to tuck away.

4. I stopped filling every space

And started leaving a little room to breathe.

Not every corner needs something.
Sometimes the calm comes from what you don’t put there.

5. I stopped choosing loud decor

And started choosing quiet textures.

Linen. Wood. Woven baskets.
Things that don’t shout for attention—but quietly belong.

6. I stopped using artificial scents

And started leaning into natural ones.

Fresh coffee. Clean linen. A simple bar of soap.
Even a candle lit at the end of the day.

7. I stopped trying to match everything

And started letting things feel collected over time.

A worn bowl. An old crock. A simple tray.
Pieces that feel like they’ve lived a life before they came to me.

8. I stopped rushing through daily tasks

And started turning them into small rituals.

Washing dishes slowly.
Folding towels neatly.
Lighting a candle while I clean.

9. I stopped hiding everyday items

And started letting them be seen.

A basket of linens.
A brush by the sink.
Things I use… right where I can reach them.

10. I stopped aiming for a “perfect” home

And started embracing a lived-in one.

An apron on a hook.
A towel draped over the sink.
A space that feels used, loved, and real.

๐Ÿค A Gentle Ending

A slow home doesn’t happen all at once.

It’s built quietly…
in the choices you make…
in the things you keep…
and the things you gently let go.

And little by little, your home begins to feel like a place you can rest again.
